Wireless Throttles - Overview
In 1999, CVP offered the very first wireless throttle for a DCC system.
It was so popular that it was awarded the prestigious Model Railroader Magazine's most innovative product award.
In the intervening years, we've refined, improved and simplified our wireless throttles based on user requests and changes to the NMRA-DCC standard.
This year, we've released our 4th generation wireless throttle the T1300E and we think you'll find it to be one of the finest wireless throttles we have ever released.
Yet, the T1300E has a lower price than our original 1999 wireless throttle but is vastly superior to its operation.
Adding Wireless Throttles
Adding wireless throttles to your EasyDCC System is easy and straight forward.
You will need at least one wireless basestation, also called a receiver.
This basestation receives the wireless throttle data and formats for sending to the Command Station.
You can use multiple basestations on your layout especially if it is very large or you have a large number of operators.
Each basestation can support up to 8 throttles.
There are a number of different ways to hook up basestations.
Click on the Receivers link for details.
You can also read about the hookup options in the EasyDCC System Installation and Operation Manual (the Orange book).
Combine Wireless And Plug-In Throttles
The wireless throttles work right alongside plug-in throttles.
It is very common to have main-line operators using wireless throttles while yard and town operators use plug-in throttles.
Both can be used interchangeably without any hassle.
EasyDCC Is Optimized For Wireless Control:
Precision wireless control capable of flawless locomotive control is the goal; and CVP Products, with more than 30 years of command control design experience, has met and exceeded that goal with all EASYDCC wireless throttles.
Here are other attributes of wireless control that describe the required performance levels for a outstanding wireless system - like EASYDCC.
Your Wireless Throttle Must Be Simple: your operators must be able to pick up the throttle and instinctively know how to select and operate their train.
Entering locomotive numbers must never require physically connecting the throttle to a throttle bus with a cable; that is not a wireless throttle.
Changing the speed or direction and controlling locomotive functions should never take an elaborate set of instructions or understanding cryptic symbols.
Wireless Throttle Control Must Have Fast Response: EASYDCC is optimized to provide fast response time when many throttles and locomotives are active.
The Wireless System Must Be Stable: layout operations lasting for many hours is the norm for EasyDCC systems.
The system software has been tested and optimized for a variety of heavy duty conditions and environments.
OK for Lots Of Wireless Throttles: Even when heavily loaded with this many trains and operators, your locomotive performance and system response must remain remarkably good for an enjoyable experience.
Excellent Range: Excellent range and coverage is mandatory.
For fringe reception areas, adding receivers must be easy.
The EASYDCC wireless system provides all of that.
Comfortable and Convenient: CVP's wireless throttles are small in size, have a balanced feel and easy to understand controls.
The big, speed-control knob makes precise speed control simple and intuitive.
The design allows for convenient one handed operation - for both right and left handed operators.
The sleek, balanced case makes the throttle very comfortable during long operating sessions.
